Gawler's Tree Ghost
Witness: Mary Whitford
Location: Gawler, South Australia
Date of Encounter: April 2004
I live in Hackham West and was going to my friend's house in Gawler — the other side of Adelaide. We were talking about places that are haunted in Gawler. My friend and her family took me to Dead Man's Pass which is a nice walking place or park — it's also said to be haunted by the ghost of a man who was found dead and was put in a tree in 1800's or 1900's, I'm not sure how the story goes.
I was left with the dog while the others went for a walk as I am due to have a baby. I sat on a blanket on the grass and my friend and her family went on down the path out of sight. I was playing with the dog when I felt like I was being watched. I felt spooked out — no one was around at all — the scariest part of the experience was there were no birds singing at all in the trees — just a cold breeze. I feel like the male ghost was there watching me. I was happy to see my friend coming up the path with her family — we walked back up to the car and left.
