For those readers who are looking for something compact and useful about healing herbs and how to use them to their best applications, this is among the finest books of its kind to come along recently. Thomas Avery Garran has put together a remarkable, compact, and accurate book about herbs. He has presented the material in such a manner that the reader can find what he or she is seeking quickly, and also receive a traditional Chinese medicine approach with the documentation.

The photographs in this book are excellent. The color is true to the herb, and as a field reference, these photos should be helpful in identification.

There is a nice foreword by Z’ev Rosenberg, which will have a wide appeal to readers, and the preface is entertaining and informative.

Following the introduction are two informative sections, plus four appendices. Each section is a perfect example of how well an expert can share information with the reader in a hands-on approach.

This is an unusual book, full of information and ideas for helping oneself and others. Garran is to be congratulated on a fine book about herbs, a book that is accurate and highly useable.

Enjoyable reading. One of the best herb books to be published.
