Witness: [Name Withheld Upon Request]
Location: Hill Air Force Base, Utah
Date of Encounter: December 14, 1978

I was about five-years-old at the time. My family was stationed at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. It was very early morning and it was still pretty dark when I felt someone sit on my bed. I opened my eyes and saw my grandmother sitting at my feet gently rubbing my leg. My grandmother lived in Indiana at the time, but my young mind didn’t think about that. I was happy to see her. She didn’t talk or walk away. She just sat there and smiled. I felt so much love in that moment. I fell back asleep thinking my grandmother had come out to visit again and she was just checking on me. Some time later that morning my father received a phone call telling him his mother had just died. With all of the commotion of preparing to leave for the funeral, I never got the chance to tell my father that his mom had come to me to say goodbye. I have held that moment in my heart ever since.

The other strange thing is my second child, looks and acts like my grandmother and was born on December 14, 1999. My grandmother died December 14, 1978.

  1. This story reminds me of my own experience. I had the most vivid dream that my Grandmother came to me and said that I know you are not well and I am sorry I can’t be there for you. I said , that is ok Grandma I understand. Then she smiled and left. Well my grandmother had died that week so it was obvious to me she couldn’t be there for me, but I wasn’t sick so I didn’t understand that part of the dream. Later that year I fell ill with Crohn’s disease and have been sick on and off since then. She had always taken care of me when I was sick with a cold or something so it wasn’t unusual for what she said to me in my dream.
