Susan Moonwriter Pesznecker is a hearth Pagan and one of her many areas of expertise is green magick. She lives in Milwaukie, Oregon.

This well-written book is part of the “Oberon Zell Presents” series, from the archives of the Grey School of Wizardry. As a reference text with illustrations, it will prove invaluable when researching gargoyles. There are many exciting topics in the book, and among them are stone faces, misericords, Janus heads, corbels, Sheila-na-gigs, hagodays, legends of the gargoyles, the role of the gargoyle in magickal practice, use of the gargoyles in elemental correspondences, the approaches to stone magick, protection, warding, egregoes, talismans, and related spell work.

The reader will find no dull moments in this fast-paced and enjoyable book. It is fun to read and educational. Susan Moonwriter Pesznecker has a fine talent for making factual material entertaining reading. There is a section on the theme of the gargoyle in films which will whet the curiosity of those who have not seen these films, or have not heard about them until now. How many of you remember that 1972 movie about gargoyles filmed at Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico starring Cornel Wilde?

If you want an excellent book on gargoyles, this is the one. The book is developed fully into three parts, and all sixteen chapters are interesting. Two appendix offerings round out this well-written nonfiction work. Congratulations to the author for a fine book about gargoyles.
