Lee Prosser - Bide One's Time is Lee's bi-weekly column on the supernatural. Every individual has a different interpretation on the term, night terrors. What may be one person’s night terror may be another person’s sweet dream!

Night terrors capture, control, and manipulate a large territory of things usually taking place during that time we call sleep. For instance, it is not unusual to find the world of nightmares and dreams involved, or waking up trembling and fearful with soaked, sticky bed sheets following an encounter with something other than human in your bed, having wet dreams gone awry, an old hag coming to pay a visit and not ready to leave until she takes something for her efforts, altered dream states, an unseen or distorted figure chasing you down a dark hallway but you cannot make out what it is, or being thrown into a dark closet and the door slammed shut behind you, psychological disenchantments, or a host of terms related thereof!

Night TerrorsWhat do we do? Where do we go? What happens to us?

Night Terrors mean different things to different people. Perchance to dream? One wonders. Think of those too real dreams you have had, dreams which may start out well but end up being a paranormal nightmare not necessarily of your own designing!

Night Terrors are part of the existential landscape of what is, what can be, and what may be. They are real to the person having them!

What is your existential landscape like when you turn out the lights and pull up the sheet? Or take a nap? What comes to greet you in that still night or still day of the soul — is all ever what it seems? Who actually throws the dice, and when cast and you encounter that number, who do you really thank or who do you really shake your head in horror to as you scream when you see what is brought out to you as a result?

However you define, night terrors, it is real to you personally, and that is what matters. The same applies to other people as well. Whatever your night terrors may be, write them down and share them with others. That way, someone else knows besides the Grim Reaper!
