Ghostvillage.com review

Truly one of the most unusual books published by Red Wheel/Weiser in the summer of 2006, it almost defies definition with its hands-on approach to supernatural aspects! This is a fine gem of a book, and a reading experience that is extremely satisfying from a visual perspective.

This book is a combination of alchemical lore and psychology, among other subjects. Jeff Hoke is an artist and the senior exhibition designer at California’s Monterey Bay Aquarium. He states he received his inspiration from the eclectic museums and curiosity cabinets of the 1600s. He wrote the book with the idea to return the readers to an enchanted time before science became a belief system unto itself and of itself!

Hoke has created seven exhibition halls, named for the stages of alchemical transformation from what is best defined as base matter to divinely inspired knowledge. What is fascinating about this book is that it includes pull-out interactive paper models. The chapters include items on the creation and universe, dream states, visions, and hypnosis. Dealing with human consciousness, many intriguing possibilities and concepts are introduced including quantum physics and Tibetan Buddhism. A classic in the making, this is one of the most unusual books you will come across!

Visually stunning with enjoyable text, it is highly recommended reading. Readers will spend hours with this imaginative creation. What a book!
