In a time of international crisis, this refreshing boxed-set is indeed a treat. There is the paperback, but also the card deck of readings and a DVD.
Contemporary China considers The Dalai Lama an outcast and trouble-maker, and has sought to either kill the monks in Tibet or force them into the Chinese Army. That they have failed to assassinate this quiet man with an ironic sense of humor is testament enough to his staying power.
Perhaps it is best summed up in the words of The Dalai Lama himself: “For as Long as space endures, and for as long as living beings remain, until then may I too abide to dispel the misery of the world.” For those interested in Tibet and this spiritual leader, this is an ideal introduction. This book contains lessons on the six transcendent perfections, the path of the bodhisattva which are the qualities each individual must cultivate in order to reach enlightenment.
Tenzin Gyatso, the fourteenth Dalai Lama is the spiritual and temporal leader of the Tibetan people and in 1989 was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his ongoing struggle to liberate Tibet. Don Farber has photographed Tenzin Gyatso for over twenty years.
This is an enjoyable reading experience and should have a wide appeal. Excellent.
