Most people interested in the paranormal, the supernatural, and the occult, will know of the writer Aleister Crowley. It is a positive credit to the publisher, Weiser Books, that much of Crowley’s writings are in print again.
A sampling of the Alesiter Crowley books from Weiser makes for topnotch reading. The Book of Lies is a highly witty collection of paradoxes by Crowley, and these aphorisms make for enjoyable reading. For those interested in Pentagram studies, chapter 25 gives a revised ritual. The Goetia: The Lesser Key of Solomon the King translated by Liddell and Mathers with editing and introduction by Crowley is another fine look at what Crowley can accomplish when working with material of a highly occult nature including magickal rituals, invocations, and Enochian evocations. There is also a table of the 72 spirits. The Book of the Law by Crowley is an in-depth explanation of the universe, and the Law of Thelma, among other topics. Moonchild is a novel by Crowley about the battle between the forces of light and the forces of darkness and reflects autobiographical aspects of Crowley’s personal life. The Book of Thoth, and the Crowley Thoth Tarot Deck serve as prime examples of the genius of Aleister Crowley aka The Master Therion, and his interest in Ancient Egypt.
All in all, Weiser is to be congratulated for daring to publish books of the occult before it was politically-socially acceptable, and they were publishing much material that paved the way for other writers and other publishers of the future to publish. Weiser is not the only publisher of distinguished occult books, but is among the very foremost in the top five!
