I Told Mom Her Family Moved Home

In my family, the women have what we call “the knowing.” My grandmother was a healer and her sister a seer. I’ve seen spirits my entire life, though, I try not to make it known. It doesn’t particularly scare me, so the few incidents I’ve had were quick and with little reaction. I knew to not invite or entertain, so to speak.

When I was in fourth grade, at ten years old, my family bought a home from a Canadian family. The man had attended the university here, so moved his family, (including his mother) here while he got his doctorate. He had graduated and they wanted to go home. Our parents handled the sale, and the closing date was set.
A week before the closing, though, the old homeowner called with the news that his mother had suddenly passed away. They wanted to postpone the closing by a week so they could drive her remains back to Canada where she would be interred. They did, so the day finally came and we made the big move.

A few months after we got settled in, in the middle of the night, something made me wake up. When I looked down to the foot of my bed, there was a short, little old lady in a house dress with curly, salt-and-pepper hair standing there! Though it freaked me out, I instinctively KNEW what she wanted. I told her that “They moved back to Canada!”

With that, I pulled the covers up over my head and went back to sleep! I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was a bit unnerved, but, I knew what was happening and wanted to help the poor lady.

The next day, I asked my parents if they had seen the previous owner’s mother when they were viewing the house, but they hadn’t. They just blew it off. I had no description, so there’s no way I could compare their description with the lady I saw.

What makes me fairly certain that she was who it was was that my folks had let me have the master bedroom. I had a lot of big play things, like a kitchen set, doll houses, etc., so it made sense.

She had returned to what she knew as her son’s room, looking for her family, so I told her where to find them as best I could. I hope she was able to connect to her loved ones!
