Bide One's TimeSwami Chetanananda and Lee ProsserBy Lee Prosser Sri Ramakrishna (1836 - 1886) is considered one of India's most respected mystics and holy men. During his life, he made many references to the paranormal and ghosts. One of his parables was "A Ghost Sought A Companion." Thinking of the writings of Sri Ramakrishna brings to my mind a vivid memory of my visit with Swami Chetanananda of the Vedanta Society of Saint Louis, Missouri. A monk of the Ramakrishna Order, he is a highly respected minister, a well-known writer, and a gifted speaker. I visited with him in California during 1989. We had a pleasant lunch together, which he prepared and served. We talked of many things. After lunch, we washed and dried the dishes together, and put them away. I recall two things he told me that day which have remained with me over the many years. "Be good and do good." "True spirituality is a willingness to change." With the passage of time, I remember fondly what Swami said, his advice, and the lovely lunch we shared together. I remember Swami's memorable laugh and keen insights. There will never be another such as Swami Chetanananda, for he remains special and one of a kind, a true holy man.
Lee Prosser is Ghostvillage.com's book reviewer and a
regular contributor. "Bide One's Time" is Prosser's twice-monthly column on his supernatural musings.
