20 years ago my husband and myself built our first home on one acre of land. We were told at the time that an early pioneer home was once built on our land, but had long been gone. We both thought this was a nice little piece of history for our new home.

We had been living there for a number of months when one winter’s day my husband yelled out to me asking what I was doing in the hallway. I replied I wasn’t in the hallway, and hadn’t been there. He insisted I was there.

A few hours later I was in my kitchen and looked up to see a woman walk from my son’s room into the bathroom. I was shocked and went to see, but I couldn’t see anyone there. The sighting of the woman continued over the next few weeks with my children even seeing her. She always did the same thing: walking from my son’s room into the bathroom. We knew she was a ghost as she was a washed out color, wearing period clothing and her hair in a bun.

On night while my husband was out, my youngest son who was four-years-old, wanted to sleep in my room. After I put him to bed, I went out to make a coffee and he started to scream. I raced into my bedroom to hear him crying, “Mummy! Mummy there’s a dead lady in here!” I asked my son why he thought she was dead and he explained that she walked into my room and laid on the floor and he could see right through her. I told my son not to worry, that she wouldn’t hurt him, and he was fine after that. That was the last time we saw her, until the following year in April she came back again. Every year at the same time she comes back and does the same repetitive things.

We have now moved, and I often wonder if the new owners of our house see her as well.
