Dear Ghostvillagers,

It was a dark and stormy night back in October of 1999 when I first started tinkering with the Web pages that would soon become Ghostvillage.com. Back then, I couldn't even spell HTML, but I had a couple of paranormal articles that I had written for a newspaper I was working for, and an idea. The idea was simple: a place to put everything ghostly. An open forum of discussion, from the skeptical to the religious, on the supernatural. I'll take credit for launching the site, but it was the tens of thousands of Ghostvillagers who contributed their experiences, thoughts, and theories that made this place grow into what it is today.

Now that we're coming up on the eighth anniversary of Ghostvillage.com's launch, I'm proud to announce the release of my latest book, The Ghost Files: Paranormal Encounters, Discussion, and Research From the Vaults of Ghostvillage.com (from New Page Books). The new book is for fans of ghost stories, paranormal investigators, and for those who want to explore the many facets of the supernatural experience. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to exchange ideas with so many people on this paranormal topic that I wanted to write a book that would be my definitive work on not only the where and when of ghosts, but also delve into the hows and whys. Many Ghostvillagers contributed to this book, and just like on the Web site, their additions were invaluable.

You're dead. Now what? It's the big question and an important discussion we're all a part of, whether we want to acknowledge it or not. The more questions we ask, the more answers we work toward, the better we'll understand ourselves. To that end, I hope The Ghost Files will help take the supernatural discussion even further. The book offers dozens of personal and profound accounts of ghost encounters; feature articles that explore specific aspects of the subject such as: possession, ghost investigation, psychics, folklore, historic haunts, spirit communication, skepticism, and animal spirits; and much more.

I'd appreciate your support on this one, Ghostvillagers. Whether you pick it up in your local bookstore, online, or in our Ghost-Mart, you'll have a great book and help Ghostvillage.com grow even bigger. After all, I dedicated the book to you (seriously -- check out page 5).

Now that it's September, that also means the busy season is upon us. Our village is going to start getting crowded, and I'll be out and about at some upcoming conferences and lectures. Please see the schedule below. I always welcome the opportunity to meet Ghostvillagers wherever I go. Plus it's always nice to see a friendly face in the audience.

Enjoy the rest of the newsletter below!

Supernaturally yours,

Jeff Belanger
Mayor of Ghostvillage.com

Monthly Contest
Congratulations to Cale Sanders of Charlotte, North Carolina, who was last month's winner of an autographed copy of Mickey Bradley and Dan Gordon's new book, Haunted Baseball, a Ghostvillage.com window sticker, and a Ghostvillage.com t-shirt!

This month, we're doing the contest again, but we ask that you first click this link: http://www.ghostvillage.com/index.shtml#winner. If it says, "The search is on" then we don't have a winner yet and go ahead and send in your answer. If you see today's date and "We have a winner!" that means you weren't the first to email us. Sorry, please try again next month.

On to this month's question: This question can be answered by reading a page on Ghostvillage.com. The first person to reply to this email with the correct answer will win this month's prize.

According to author Dan Gordon, how can there be peace between Red Sox and Yankees fans?

Once we have our winner, we will announce them on our home page as soon as possible. Good luck! (Only Ghostvillagers who have not won a prize from us in the last year are eligible.)

This month's prize: We're giving away an autographed copy of Jeff Belanger's latest book, The Ghost Files, a Ghostvillage.com window sticker, and a Ghostvillage.com t-shirt!

Who's Who in the Village?
Get to know some of your fellow Ghostvillagers.

>>DeadTrish<< - member since July 12, 2006

What is your name?
Trisha Stryjewski

How old are you?
I just turned 30.

Where do you live?
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

What do you do for a living?
I'm a reconciliation specialist for the University of Pennsylvania Health System and come this November, I will also be a full-time Pastry Arts student at The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College.

What got you interested in investigating the paranormal?
Well, like most I've had an interest in the paranormal since I was a child. I didn't become interested in investigating until I moved into a house that had activity. I guess you can say that is where my paranormal investigator career began. From there I joined up with a couple of local groups and eventually wound up co-founding my own paranormal group. (Distraught Entities Analysis Division, aka D.E.A.D. www.deadparanormal.org)

Do you have a favorite haunt that you return to again and again to study?
I have many that I frequent, but the one that I hold near and dear to my heart will always be Fort Mifflin. It's probably one of the most overlooked spots in Philadelphia as far as haunts go. It's so rich in history and has plenty of activity to boot. Old Fort Mifflin is certainly my old faithful and never lets me down.

If you could live any celebrity's life for a day, who would it be?
That's easy, since I am aspiring to be a pastry chef, (hey, if I got paid for ghost hunting/researching it'd be a different story...) I'd have to choose Chef Duff Goldman.
