Dear Ghostvillagers,

Happy almost-autumn (unless you’re a southern hemisphere Ghostvillager, then almost-spring). The air is turning crisp here at the Ghostvillage world headquarters, which means the busy season has begun! Because it’s the busy season, that also means it’s big announcement time!

It was seven years ago that my first book was published. The World’s Most Haunted Places came out in August of 2004. Since then a lot has changed with the paranormal community, and with the popularity of the subject. There are now many shows exploring the pursuit of ghosts and spirits, there are more groups and individuals than ever before looking into this stuff, and in short: the odd became cool. Since my first book came out, I’ve published over a dozen more, I’ve given hundreds of talks, tons of interviews, and have been blessed to be able to pursue this study full-time thanks to you folks.

Today I’m proud to announce the launch of the Revised Edition of The World’s Most Haunted Places! If you don’t have this book, this new version is the one to get. I’ve made tons of updates, plus included several new haunts. You’ve all been so supportive of me over the years, and I don’t ask you to part with your hard-earned money lightly. I’m asking you to buy the book this week! If you buy it at Amazon.com, you’ll get the lowest price. Click on the book cover, or this link to buy it there. If you want an autographed copy, you can purchase those on my personal Web site here: http://www.jeffbelanger.com/theworldsmosthauntedplaces2.shtml

The World’s Most Haunted Places is a global ghost tour and hunt through some incredible history and haunts. I’m proud of this one, and it will always hold a special place for me being my first book. Please pick it up, leave some online reviews on Amazon, and help create a social media buzz by liking it on Facebook or tweeting it on Twitter.

As I said, the busy season is here. I have a lot of events and lectures coming up. I’m hoping you can attend all of them, ‘cause that would be one heck of a party. But do try to make it out to a few. I’m always adding new material to my talks. The discussion evolves, and it’s not that same if you’re not there.

A few events worth noting coming up in the next month: The Chicago Ghost Conference (featuring 30 Odd Minutes LIVE), The Central Texas Paranormal Conference, and Haunted History Night in Wareham, Massachusetts. You can see my complete listings further down.

Enjoy the rest of the newsletter below.

Supernaturally yours,

Jeff Belanger

What is your name?
Fred J. Fritz

How old are you?
43

Where do you live?
Virginia Beach, Virginia

What do you do for a living?
Retired after 20 years of active-duty military service with the U.S. Navy. Now pursuing a Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Old Dominion University.

What got you interested in ghosts and the supernatural?
I've never really been one to seek out paranormal experiences, they just seem to happen to me. As far back as I can recall I had a spirit or a presence that watched me. I remember being about four years old and seeing a figure standing in my doorway, watching me. My parents would get exasperated with trying to calm me down and would eventually tell me to go sleep in my sister's room. That didn't help because the figure would follow me and take up a position in my sister's doorway. Never did anything, just watched. Maybe a protective spirit or a relative who recently passed? At any rate, it really freaked me out. I don't recall why or how those visitations ended, one day they just did. Over the years I've had several experiences, some good, some bad. Enough experiences to prompt me to do some research to where I now have a pretty extensive library of paranormal-related books. :)

What do you think is the world's most haunted location?
My opinion is that one would find the most haunted location to be somewhere in a Western society. Many of the Eastern societies have a map or guidebook interwoven in their spiritual beliefs for what happens at death, what to expect, where to go, how to get there. In the West, we don't have an equivalent for the various Books of the Dead, so death really remains a mystery, something to speculate about. I would imagine the most haunted location would be where a lot of people either died at the same time, such as a battlefield, or died over a period of time, such as a penetentiary, asylum, or hospital. As far as personal experience, I visited Aleister Crowley's villa in Cefalu, Sicily in 1998 and that place was certainly active. You could feel it as soon as you entered. I also felt a tremendous amount of energy when I visited Stonehenge. Neither of these were "ghostly" in nature, though, so I wouldn't consider them haunted.

What was the first music concert you attended live in person?
Van Halen, Women and Children First Tour, 1980.
