Dear Ghostvillagers,
Hey, sorry about missing last month’s newsletter. It was the first missed newsletter in over three years. I won’t bring you down with all of the woes, but between a computer virus and multiple deadlines, I just wasn’t able to send one out last month. But things are much better now here at the Ghostvillage.com world headquarters. To quote a Barry Manilow song (something one should almost never do), “it looks like we made it…” I’m out of the woods and ready to paranormally rock once more.
I just finished a new book and DVD that will be available in July. I’m so excited about this project I can hardly contain myself. My intent is to present an entirely new way to look at the paranormal. I want to change everything. Stay tuned, Ghostvillagers… something huge is coming… at the Copa… Copacabana… (man, that’s twice now in two paragraphs).
A big welcome to the hundreds of new subscribers to the newsletter. Whether I met you at a recent conference or if you just stumbled upon our corner of the Internet, welcome. Stay a while and share your own ghostly experiences.
When talking about paranormal hot spots, one type of location that comes up repeatedly is battlefields. These are places where powerful, history-changing events took place. It’s where sometimes thousands of lives were lost in a short period of time, and where those fighting felt the most extreme of emotions from rage to raw fear as they realized their lives were about to end. When you walk on a battlefield today, you can’t help but pick up on those feelings. The ground is hallowed, as President Abraham Lincoln put it in the Gettysburg Address. Though the president was talking about a small town in Pennsylvania, his words could apply to any battlefield in any war. The ground is hallowed. Full of souls.
In ghost investigations, we want to be where the ghosts are. It’s natural that we are drawn to these places of great tragedy. It’s also natural that we learn what took place in these locations. Who fought who. Who died where, and why. Historians are ready to spout statistics off about various battles: which armies were where and the numbers of dead and wounded, but those numbers are cold and have little impact or meaning. But a story about a single soldier with a family, with siblings, with friends—that has impact. Because then you can multiply that single story by the thousands of dead and start to understand the importance of the battle. Ghost research allows us to strive for that single story. It’s a noble pursuit. Don’t let anyone tell you different.
In addition to all of my deadlines, I’ve also been travelling quite a bit for conferences and legend trips. Thank you to everyone who said hello at these events. I look forward to seeing you again at another one. See the list below for a list of upcoming engagements and be sure to be there!

I'm a student. Anthropology major.
What got you interested in the paranormal?
I got interested in the paranormal when I was little. I woke up one night and saw the ghost of an old man. He said, "Don't be afraid," and then he disappeared. I had some other experiences after that and basically grew up believing that there are certain things in the world that can't be, or at least haven't yet been, explained.
Do you feel locations like battlefields are more prone to haunting?
Yes, I feel like any place where people died violently is going to be more prone to hauntings.
