Top o' the mornin' to ya, Ghostvillagers,

Thank you for the great response to last month’s “Women in the Paranormal” theme! I appreciate all of the kudos and emails. As I mentioned last time, the good news is there isn’t enough days in a month to get to all of the great women making important contributions. I also noticed something interesting about the answers from this month’s group – there seems to be a shift in perception. More women are taking leadership roles in paranormal groups, and the divide between the sexes seems to be getting smaller in the field. Great job all of you!

This month we’re going to turn our focus to monsters, but not just any monsters, nothing of Hollywood creation (though certainly Hollywood plays a part in our perception). We’re talking about monsters with roots in paranormal lore. Vampires, zombies, werewolves, and our news editor Chris Balzano would probably have me shot if I didn’t include Pukwudgies from Wampanoag folklore. Though most people think of these creatures as fictional, all of them have a basis in fact and folklore. They have been vilified, changed, made beautiful or ugly, and always seem to change with the times to keep their relevance. That’s part of the magic of monsters. There are also local variations on these monsters. Region adopt some monsters to make them sound unique to their locale even though the description matches creatures reported elsewhere.

Thank you also to everyone who has been watching my video talk show, 30 Odd Minutes each Tuesday night (or in the download). I was hoping to get your help with the show. First, if you’d like to sign up for the 30 Odd Minutes newsletter, go to the homepage: www.30oddminutes.com. We’ll only email you on the day of the show to tell you what that night’s topic is. The other thing you can do is contact your local Public Access television station and ask if they will carry our show. We already have dozens of cable stations around the United States playing the show each week. It’s free and we can get the episodes to your local station at no cost to them. Our goal is to get on hundreds of these stations reaching millions of homes to promote the discussion of the paranormal. Email me for details if you want to help!

2010 is looking like my busiest lecture year ever. I’m already booked for many great events around the United States with more being announced soon. Some events coming up soon (and there are just a few tickets left for each of these) include: The Queen City Paranormal Convention in Cincinnati April 9th, The TAPS/Beyond Reality Event at the Mt. Washington Hotel in New Hampshire April 23rd, and the Darkness Radio/Ghost Adventures event at Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louisville May 2nd. Don't miss any of them! I’m hoping to include some international events very soon so we can reach out even further. It’s a great time to be exploring the unexplained and very soon I will be introducing some new ideas and practices into the paranormal. I can’t say more right now, but I do have a book coming out in June that I hope will change everything. Stay tuned, Ghostvillagers!

Enjoy the rest of the newsletter below!

Supernaturally yours,

Jeff Belanger
