Dear Ghostvillagers,

Happy New Year! Let's hope it's haunted, or at the very least, haunting. To study ghosts and haunted places is to reflect on the past, to consider our direct connection to our ancestors. Sure, maybe ghosts are walking around demanding we remember history, but what about the objects that people once cherished? Jewelry, watches, weapons, books, or maybe objects with spiritual or religious significance--could these items hold an imprint from a former owner? Or could they literally be haunted by someone?

I've known a few mechanics in my day who were otherwise level-headed, but there were certain malfunctioning engines that would cause these people to throw down their wrenches and raise their hands toward the sky cursing the "gremlins" that plagued the metal and gears below. Maybe intent is part of the equation when working with the inanimate. One part mechanics, one part physics, and one part belief. It may sound crazy, but I recall more than a few building projects I've worked on that frustrated me to the core. Where I had to take a deep breath, focus, and say a quiet, "Come on, baby, pleeeease work…" before the desired outcome finally happened. If our intent can affect objects, then so can our belief. A lucky rabbit's foot (though obviously not so lucky for the rabbit), a religious medal that we believe protects us from harm, or a wedding ring that reminds us of vows we took and the people we love may just get infused with emotion and memory to the point where others can pick up on it. Haunted objects is what we're going to explore this month on Ghostvillage.com. Tell us about your own experiences!

A new year is a time for resolutions and refocused effort. It's no different for me. In 2010 I have three new books coming out -- I will of course keep you posted as they become available, I'm working on several new projects that I hope to move into production, and I'm thrilled at the response my talk show, 30 Odd Minutes, has received. There will be plenty of new episodes coming this year so stay tuned.

It's January, time to make a commitment. I hope you'll commit to getting more involved in our paranormal community, that you'll consider submitting an article or two to us, that you'll openly discuss your evidence and beliefs, and that you'll attend some of the great events happening all over the world. I'm kind of partial to the events I'm speaking at (see the list below), so come on by and let's have a beer and swap stories.

Enjoy the rest of the newsletter below!

Supernaturally yours,

Jeff Belanger
Mayor of Ghostvillage.com

Who's Who in the Village?
Get to know some of your fellow Ghostvillagers.

>>Laurie Ann<< - Ghostvillager since May 12, 2006

What is your name?
Laurie, but my family and friends call me Laurie Ann.

How old are you?
I'll be 40 this August, but feel more like I'm turning 20.

Where do you live?
LaPorte, Indiana.

What do you do for a living?
At the time, I'm taking care of my husband (who's ill from bad lungs), taking care of our children, and everything that comes with taking care of a home -- Domestic Goddess maybe?

What got you interested in the paranormal?
It started when I was in my teens, but then laid dormant until we bought our home (built in 1880) and strange, unexplained things started happening.

Do you believe inanimate objects can be haunted?
I most certainly do. I believe that a person can become attached to an object they hold dear and near to their heart. Almost like the item becomes an extension of themselves. And when the person passes on, they leave a part of them "marked" on the object.

What's the last song/CD you bought?
Beyonce's "Sweet Dreams."
