Dear Ghostvillagers,

It’s spring again here at the Ghostvillage.com world headquarters. The weather is getting warm, and we find ourselves venturing outside as much as possible. It’s good to be active again, whether kicking the soccer ball around or playing catch with the neighbor. It’s a time for sports. Baseball is back, basketball is heating up, hockey is finishing up (and getting ready for what has to be the shortest off-season in all of sports), it’s a time for tennis, swimming, and the Olympics are coming up again this summer in London. We have sports on the brain.

It’s out there on the gridiron, on the pitch, the turf, the court, the field, that so many legends are made. It’s a place where some feats seem almost super human, where some athletes live out their greatest glories. It’s elation when our team or favorite player succeeds, and heartbreak when they fall short of the goal. Sports complexes are a buffet of human activity and emotion, it’s no wonder that so many of them have ghostly legends.

I wonder, could it be the current athletes or fans who hold these spirits in their respective parks? Do we conjure them every time we wax nostalgic for our team’s glory years, or the time we watched an athlete break a record? Think of how superstitious athletes can be. Many baseball players avoid stepping on the first or third baseline when they’re walking off or on the field. Wade Boggs had to eat chicken on game days. Then there are the accounts of players, coaches, and staff from these various parks around the world who swear there’s another presence in the park and sometimes they intervene during the games. These ghosts become scapegoats for when a player misses an easy catch or shot, or the ghosts become angels in the proverbial outfield when a miracle play goes the way of the home team.

This month we’re going to dive into haunted sports. The ghosts of past athletes, fans, coaches, and lost seasons. Got a story? Share it in our message board of the month!

This past month I had the chance to check out some incredible haunts. I spoke at the Phenomenology conference in Gettysburg and then the Darkness Radio event at the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio. While there, I logged a 30 Odd Minutes mission at each location. You can see Gettysburg’s mission here: http://www.30oddminutes.com/archive/2012/04/04/mission-89-live-from-the-phenomenology-conference-in-gettysburg/ and this Tuesday you’ll be able to see the Mansfield mission. I appreciate meeting so many of you at these things. Thanks for sharing your stories and experiences with me!

This weekend I’ll be heading over to the haunted Slater Mill in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, for another event. We’ll be bringing along the 30 Odd Minutes Mother Ship as well, so stop by and see us! http://www.legendtrips.com/slatermill2012.shtml

Also, for you Ghost Adventures fans, I'll be appearing in tomorrow night's all-new episode on the Travel Channel at 9 PM.

Enjoy the rest of the newsletter below.

Supernaturally yours,

Graveyard Shift at Slater Mill
Join us Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the haunted Slater Mill in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

The creepy giggling of a little girl. The horrible shouts of a young boy in pain. Shadowy figures seen roaming about the grounds.

All in a day's work at Slater Mill.

For more than 200 years, Slater Mill has sat on the banks of the Blackstone River. It was built in 1793 by Samuel Slater and was the first successful water-powered, cotton-spinning mill in North America. It is considered by many to be the birthplace of American industry.

It's also one of its most tragic haunts... Join us for a dinner, lectures, and hours of investigating! Click here for more information: http://www.legendtrips.com/slatermill2012.shtml
