Those who have read Lewis Mehl-Madrona’s best-selling Coyote Wisdom and Coyote Healing will welcome the appearance of this new book by him. The key to understanding a patient’s story lies within that story, and if medicine and healing is to take place then the aspects of the patient’s beliefs, values, and culture must be considered fully.

In addition to the excellent introduction and preface, there are ten chapters to this book. Among the many topics are found creation stories, stories of transformation, stories that heal, stories as psychotherapy, and archetypes as agents of change. The writing is straight-ahead and clear, each chapter carrying its own special message of discovery!

What will intrigue readers is the manner in which the author clearly and honestly presents each topic, and the way the information is revealed. A story told by a patient is more than just a story, for it is a journey through and by which that patient is understood correctly.

Lewis Mehl-Madrona is a fine author and his Coyote Wisdom ranks highly with his other writings. He is certified in family practice, geriatrics, and psychiatry. He works in a rural emergency medicine setting and is a professor with the Clinical Psychiatry department at the University of Arizona.

Coyote Wisdom with its unique stories is well worth your time. It is a fine reading experience on a grand scale. Highly recommended.
